Thousands 'flock' to Melbourne's Birdman Rally

Melbourne's Yarra river has drawn the weird and wonderful, for the annual Birdman Rally.

Would- be eagles have soared...and quickly plunged into the depths of Melbourne's Yarra river during the city's annual Birdman Rally.

The charity event pits human engineering ingenuity against the forces of nature.

But for the most part... it's really just a celebration of silliness with a colourful array of characters, costumes and aircraft.

Veteran Birdman Michael Paul flew the farthest – twelve and a half metres.

While the overall winner was Daniel Mazzei for his efforts in raising more than sixteen thousand dollars for the Bravehearts childrens charity.
