Thousands of bright kites fill Colombo sky

Almost 2000 kites depicting horses, dragons, birds and sailing ships have decorated the sky over Colombo as part an annual kite festival.

Thousands of flying animals and colourful shapes have filled the skyline over the Sri Lankan capital Colombo as part of the annual kite festival.

Almost 2000 kites depicting giant horses, dragons, birds and sailing ships were sent skyward on Sunday as part of the festival which was organised by Sri Lankan television channel Derana.

A panel of four judges decided the best kite - based on size and creativity - with entries broken up into childrens, adults and teams.
