Thousands of dollars have been raised for the family of a "hero" security guard shot dead by a police officer while trying to subdue a gunman in a US bar.
Jemel Roberson, 26, was working at Manny's Luxury Lounge in Robbins, Chicago when a fight broke out and someone started shooting.
When police arrived on the scene Mr Roberson had detained the gunman and was holding him down inside the crowded bar.
But despite wearing a uniform with the word "Security" clearly labelled, an officer with the Midlothian Police Department shot at the guard.
“Everybody was screaming out, ‘Security!’,” one witness, Adam Harris, told WGN-TV.
"He was a security guard. And they still did their job, and saw a black man with a gun, and basically killed him."

Mr Roberson died in hospital after suffering multiple bullet wounds, leaving behind his son and pregnant partner.
A GoFundMe page has now been set up in the hope of raising $150,000 to pay for his funeral.
The fundraising page describes Mr Roberson as a loving son, who was the light of his mother's life, a gifted basketballer and musician.
"Sadly, Jemel's life was tragically and unexpectedly cut short this morning as he tried to save others from senseless violence. Today, many remember him as a hero; one who put others before himself," the page says.
As of Thursday, more than $US129,000 had been donated.
