Three Aussie golfers lead NZ PGA

Kiwi Josh Geary shares top spot with three Australians after a low-scoring second day at the NZ PGA Championship in Auckland.

Playing partners Josh Geary and James Nitties took full advantage of Friday's generous conditions to be among four players sharing the lead at the midway point of the New Zealand PGA Championship in Auckland.

New Zealander Geary shot a seven-under-par 65 in his second round to be level on 11 under with three Australians - Scott Arnold, Brett Rankin and overnight co-leader Nitties.

One stroke back is two-time champion Michael Hendry, who sizzled with a 64, fellow New Zealander Mark Brown and South African Dylan Frittelli.

There are 22 players within three shots of the lead, leaving the $NZ125,000 ($A114,400) Australasian Tour event wide open entering the final two rounds at an easy-playing Remuera Golf Club.

Nitties said picking up shots was no chore as the wind stayed away on day two.

"I shot four-under-par but it felt like even par. The par-fives are playing really short - there are a few birdies out there," the New South Welshman said.

"Playing with Josh today, he had seven putts for the first nine holes so he was holing everything and not so much for anyone else."

Geary was runner-up last year to Australian Matthew Millar, who just scraped inside the cut mark of three under.
