Three bushfires merge to form out-of-control blaze larger than Sydney

Blazes burning at Gospers Mountain, Paddock Run and in the Little L complex have overlapped, after burning through approximately 3,160 square kilometers.

Nine bushfires are now burning at emergency level across New South Wales, with a further nine at the watch and act level.

Of the nine, three have banded together, creating a massive blaze with a collective size larger than all of Sydney.

In Sydney's south-west firefighters and residents, backed by aircraft battled the flames moving dangerously close to homes.
NITV science and technology editor Rae Johnston posted a photo as flames came within 100m of her parents' home in Werombi, NSW.

Sydney's smoke haze showing no signs of letting up

Radar images from the Bureau of Meteorology gained some traction online showing what appeared to be rain clouds - however the images actually depict smoke moving across the state.

The smoke is not expected to clear for sometime, unless a strong easterly wind arrives, according to the NSW RFS.

There's been a 25 per cent increase in the number of people arriving at emergency departments with breathing problems and asthma, according to New South Wales health officials.

People with asthma are being urged to stay indoors, use the recycled air feature on air conditioners, and keep preventative medication on themselves at all times.

Fire crews from around the world join the effort

Twenty-one specialist firefighters from Canada have arrived in Australia, and are being briefed on the situation before they are deployed in the state's north tomorrow.
Firefighters from the United States will also be deployed on the front line this weekend.

Total fire bans in place as much of the state braces for severe fire conditions

A total fire ban will be in place tomorrow for seven parts of New South Wales.
