Three men have been charged after a five-hour siege at a western Sydney brothel involving four hostages.

Police were called to Men's Paradise in Liverpool at 8.30am on Thursday amid reports a number of men were inside the premises with a handgun.

The area, along with parts of George Street, were locked down as negotiators and tactical officers wearing black military-style equipment and carrying carbines swarmed in.

One man gave himself up not long after police arrived, and another was led from the building in handcuffs several hours later.

The drama came to an end when a third man was marched into a police van at 12.40pm.

Police said two men, aged 25 and 41, and two women, aged 34 and 40, who were inside during the incident were shaken but not injured.

No weapons were found during a search of the building.

In a statement early on Friday, police said three men, aged 36, 40, 44, had each been charged with aggravated take person with intent to commit serious indictable offence.

They were refused bail and are due to appear at Liverpool Local Court on Friday.
