Three people are confirmed dead after a vehicle washed off a causeway south of Darwin.

Police said they had recovered the bodies of a 61-year-old man and a 61-year-old woman and were working on retrieving the body of a 21-year-old man on Saturday afternoon.

Divers were sent in to reach the vehicle, which became submerged in the Moyle River near the Indigenous township of Peppimenarti about 9pm on Friday.
