Police say they have rescued three men who were kidnapped for three days, and arrested 10 people over the incident in Melbourne's west.
It has not been revealed why the men were kidnapped.
A concerned family member contacted police on Saturday night, telling them about the kidnappings, Detective Inspector Bernie Rankin told reporters.
"This culminated in an arrest last night of a male offender in Epping in the company of a reported hostage," he said.
"This led to the further interception of two motor vehicles in Epping at four o'clock this morning where five men were arrested in possession of two firearms.
"This led to police searching a premises in Crosby Court, St Albans where a number of people - three males and one female - were arrested and two hostages were recovered."
It is believed the men were kept in a shed in Crosby Court.
The men who were rescued are receiving treatment in hospital. They did not suffer serious physical injuries but are distressed, Det Insp Rankin says.
The 10 people arrested are being interviewed by police, but no charges have been laid.
