A US hospital spokeswoman says three people are dead from a drive-by shooting that wounded six others in the US capital of Washington.
Carolyn Hammond from Washington Hospital Centre says one victim died at the scene, one was dead on arrival at the hospital, and the third died in the operating room.
She said a fourth person is in critical condition.
Police Department spokesman Officer Hugh Carew says the shootings of six men and three women happened about 7:30pm on Tuesday in southeastern Washington, DC.
Eight of those involved were aged in their 20s and 30s, and the final victim was a teenager.
Police say three people have been arrested and a weapon recovered. No motive for the shootings is known.
Four police officers were slightly injured during a pursuit of a suspect's vehicle.
The Washington Post reported the shootings happened in the city's south east, near an air force base and a sewage treatment plant.
The victims, several of them in critical condition, were found at several locations in the area, and it is unclear whether the shootings were linked.
Police are said to have chased a supect or suspects in a car nearby, but crashed their patrol car, injuring the officers inside, WJLA, the local ABC news affiliate reported.
It is not clear if any arrests have been made.
