Three-point goals for pre-season netball

The Trans-Tasman Netball League will trial a three-point scoring zone in shortened matches during its pre-season shoot-out in Auckland and Sydney.

A three-point scoring zone and rolling interchanges will be among rules to be trialled during the Trans-Tasman Netball League's Pre-season Shoot-out.

The new rules will be used during shortened games of two 10-minute halves on the final day of the three-day event, which will run simultaneously in Auckland and Sydney on March 18 to 20.

Each of the 10 teams will play two games under the trial conditions, with the top two in each city going on to a final to determine the respective Auckland and Sydney shoot-out winners.

ANZ Championship general manager Andy Crook says it's vital to test out innovations that will continue to develop netball as entertainment.

Auckland will host the Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic, Southern Steel, Northern Mystics, Adelaide Thunderbirds and reigning champions the Queensland Firebirds.

The Sydney leg will involve the NSW Swifts, Melbourne Vixens, West Coast Fever, Central Pulse and Mainland Tactix.
