The Sydney Thunder's faint Big Bash finals hopes have been dealt a blow, with senior batsman Callum Ferguson ruled out of the tournament with a hamstring injury.
Ferguson injured his right hamstring while fielding in Saturday night's seven-wicket win over the Melbourne Stars, with the South Australian batsman failing to come to the crease in the run chase.
"Scans have confirmed a moderate grade hamstring strain that will require a minimum of several weeks recovery," Sydney Thunder physiotherapist Murray Ryan said.
"Callum will undergo a rehabilitation process under the supervision of South Australian Cricket Association and Sydney Thunder."
The Thunder are also monitoring the fitness of Usman Khawaja, ahead of Wednesday's crunch clash with the Melbourne Renegades, despite scans confirming no thumb fracture for the Test star.

Khawaja had a previous niggling injury flare up during his unbeaten 44 in Saturday night's win, and there remains significant bruising around his left thumb.
The Thunder's only chances of making the finals rely on them beating the Renegades in Canberra, and then hoping either the Renegades or Hobart lose their remaining matches.
