Thunder push for two BBL games in Canberra

Sydney Thunder are likely to increase their footprint in Canberra by hosting two Big Bash League games at Manuka Oval next season.

Sydney Thunder have two games in their Big Bash League fixture yet to be confirmed but they are likely to be in Canberra.

The Thunder are pushing to have their opening round clash with the Melbourne Stars on December 21 and a match against Hobart on February 9 played at Manuka Oval.

Holding up the deal are drawn out negotiations with the ACT Government.

The game with the Hurricanes would come only four days after the first Test in the nation's capital between Australia and Sri Lanka.

"We'd ideally like to bring two games to Canberra but we're still in the middle of discussions with the government," Thunder general manager Lee Germon told Fairfax Media.

"We'd love to do that, we're just waiting for the government to come back to us to see what might be possible."

The Thunder's game against Melbourne Renegades in last season's BBL was the first in Canberra since the final of the competition was played there in 2015.
