Thunderstorms 'can cause turbulence 100km away'

Researchers from the University of Melbourne have discovered thunderstorms can cause turbulence around 100 kilometres away.

It's hoped the research will help create a more efficient use of airspace and fuel loads.

There are a few hundred turbulence-related injuries a year around the world.
