The AFL says it feels let down by Ticketek after a system failure prevented sales for looming MCG fixtures.
Ticket sales for MCG games in the opening six round of the premiership season were to have opened on Friday but have now been postponed until next week.
"The Ticketek system failure does not meet the AFL's standards when it comes to our fans," the league's general manager of clubs and AFL operations, Travis Auld, said in a statement.
"We want to make it easier for fans to attend matches and we are currently in contact with the MCG and Ticketek to ensure they are working towards meeting those standards."
Auld said public tickets for MCG games would now be available from midday next Friday, with members' ticket sales for MCG games in rounds one to six starting at 9am next Friday.
The MCG hosts three fixtures in the AFL's first round, including the season-opener between Richmond and Carlton on Thursday March 24 and the Easter Monday game between Hawthorn and Geelong.
Sales of tickets at other venues were not affected.
