Tigers' AFL tall stocks take another hit

Richmond's key position players have suffered another hit with centre half-forward Todd Elton dislocating his shoulder.

Richmond's tall timber continues to fall with key forward Todd Elton suffering a serious shoulder injury in the VFL.

Elton, who has played six AFL games this season, dislocated his shoulder in Saturday's loss to Werribee.

But the situation could have been worse at Punt Road, with ruckman Ivan Soldo appearing to avoid a serious knee injury in the same game.

Elton will undergo scans and faces the prospect of surgery.

"He has a dislocated shoulder. We will see him (on Monday) and make some sort of decision," Tigers football boss Neil Balme said.

"Some blokes need surgery and some don't. Hopefully he doesn't."

Elton has played just 10 AFL games since he was picked 26th overall at the 2011 draft, but figured to play a more prominent role with Ben Griffiths (concussion) and Shaun Hampson (back) out indefinitely.

Callum Moore, a versatile rookie key position player, is also out for up to six weeks with an ankle injury.

Richmond overcame North Melbourne on Saturday with a forward line featuring 187cm midfielder Dustin Martin named at centre half-forward and attacking linchpin Jack Riewoldt (195cm) at full forward.

Soldo, who made his AFL debut in round seven, appeared to suffer a knee injury but has recovered well.

"It looked like he had done something to his knee, but his hip was jammed up," Balme told News Corp.

"We think he's reasonably good."

Richmond have the bye this week and it is hoped Soldo will be cleared to resume after that.
