Queensland are within touching distance of a crucial win over Tasmania but day three at the Gabba was overshadowed by an injury to Jackson Bird which could rule the paceman out of Australia's upcoming tour to South Africa.
Tasmania ended the day at 6-208, still 218 runs short of victory, and with only nine able bodies.
The Tigers are unlikely to send Bird out to bat after the paceman went for scans on a hamstring injury, having not bowled a ball on day three.
Bird is one of five fast bowlers in Australia's 15-strong touring party which heads to South Africa late next week.
Fellow Tasmanian bowler Gabe Bell also went for tests after ending day two on crutches.
The shortage of bowlers created the bizarre scene of wicketkeeper Matthew Wade discarding the gloves to bowl.
Despite only sending down eight previous overs in an 11-year career, Wade managed to mop up the Queensland tail including top-scorer Jimmy Peirson (61) to earn 3-13 from 3.4 overs of medium pace.
Resuming at 6-195, Queensland were dismissed for 285 to set Tasmania 426 for victory over five sessions.
Jake Doran led the Tasmanian fightback with the bat before being dismissed late in the day for 95, while Wade contributed 26.
