Tigers fold as Vics win big in one-day cup

Ben McDermott and George Bailey half-centuries have not been enough for Tasmania to avoid a second-successive heavy one-day cup defeat, this time to Victoria.

Despite making a record-breaking century to lift Victoria to a hefty one-day cup win over Tasmania, Cameron White says it is fellow opener Marcus Harris who is deserving of higher honours.

White plundered the Tasmania attack to all corners of the WACA to set up a 111-run win as the Shield champions bounced back from defeat against Western Australia in their opening outing of the summer.

White smashed 16 fours and six sixes in scoring 165 - the highest tally made by a Victorian in the 48-year history of the competition.

But it was Harris who made the early running in a mammoth Victorian total of 6-325.

The powerful Perth born and bred opener hit a breezy 75 off 66 balls as the Vics put on a run-a-ball stand of 130 for the first wicket.

White says the 25-year-old Harris is "100 percent" ready for international honours.

"He has a good all-round game, has played really well last year in the competition and made Shield runs, so he has got to be there or thereabouts when Australian selectors are looking," said White.

Set over six an over to win, Tasmania made a disastrous start as Peter Siddle (3-27) took two early wickets.

Ben McDermott fell three runs shy of a maiden one-day century, while George Bailey made 52 with the Tigers eventually dismissed for 214 off 46 overs as Victoria earned a bonus point.

"I thought we were a little rusty in the first game, but we played pretty well today so that was pleasing," said White.

"It was great to make some runs on a personal level, but more importantly to win with a bonus point."
