Wests Tigers utility Josh Reynolds has been ruled out for the rest of the NRL season after finally succumbing to a shoulder injury which has plagued him for the last three months.

Reynolds has been booked in to undergo surgery on his troublesome right shoulder early next week after a 2018 campaign hindered by injury.

The 29-year-old has managed just five appearances for the joint venture since his high-profile move from junior club Canterbury this year.

After missing the last two weeks, the former NSW playmaker on Tuesday finally pulled the pin on his season and elected to go under the knife in an attempt to hit the ground running in 2019.

Reynolds' ill-fated season began when he missed the first five weeks with a hamstring complaint.

In his first game for the club, in round six against Manly, he fractured his shoulder and the injury has hindered him since.

He returned to make a further four appearances however it never fully healed and he's now been forced to undergo surgery.

While Reynolds came to the Tigers as a marquee signing, his loss is softened by the revitalisation of Benji Marshall this year.

Marshall has jumped Reynolds in the club's halves pecking order and formed a formidable combination with halfback Luke Brooks.

With seven games remaining, they sit two wins behind eighth-placed Brisbane and are a chance of returning to the finals for the first time since 2011.

The Tigers also announced that backrower Chris Lawrence had suffered a broken hand against St George Illawarra on Sunday.

The club said he would undergo surgery but was hopeful of returning before the end of the season.
