Tigers' Reynolds sweats on knee in NRL

Josh Reynolds' rough run with injuries has continued after he limped from the field with a knee problem during the Tigers' NRL win over the Gold Coast..

Luckless Wests Tigers five-eighth Josh Reynolds will undergo more scans after he injured his knee early in the club's win over the Gold Coast.

Reynolds limped from the field after just six minutes and did not return for the Tigers in the 30-14 victory in Tamworth on Sunday.

It comes after a difficult year-and-a-half for Reynolds, who played just five NRL games last year through hamstring and shoulder injuries.

He also began this year in reserve grade, overlooked for Benji Marshall before returning to the NRL following an injury to Marshall.

The Tigers were on Saturday night hopeful Reynolds' latest blow wasn't serious, and he would only spend limited time on the sidelines.

"Josh at the moment we will have to assess him," Tigers coach Michael Maguire said.

"They seem to think it might be a medial (ligament). He ran around there after halftime but it wasn't right. We'll wait on scans."

If he is out for next Saturday night against the Sydney Roosters, it's expected Marshall will be ready to return from his hamstring injury.

Marshall hasn't played since round three, and the Tigers have taken a cautious approach with the veteran's rehabilitation.

Second-rower Ryan Matterson was man of the match in his move to five-eighth on Saturday night in Reynolds' absence, having played No.6 as a junior.

Halfback Luke Brooks also impressed, setting up two tries as the Tigers came back from 14-0 down.

"I think we really handled that well, losing one of your playmakers," Maguire said.

"Ryan Matterson really did a good job for us as well. Credit to to Brooksy, he really took control and had Robbie (Farah) there in the middle of the park.

"There were moment in that game where he (Brooks) really grabbed the game. Last week we were really challenged but he was able to take take control."

The halfback's defence that was just as impressive as he made 17 tackles and missed only one amid a heap of second-half pressure.

"We did a fair bit of work on that over the Christmas time, and he is starting to get the dividends of that back now," Maguire said.
