Fatigued Australian Test captain Tim Paine will miss Tasmania's next Sheffield Shield game.

Paine will sit out the Tigers' fixture against Victoria from Tuesday because of soreness.

"He's still getting over a really long summer, both mentally and physically," Tasmania's coach Adam Griffith said on Friday.

"It's more of a management thing. It's not a major injury or anything."

Paine played in Tasmania's win against South Australia last weekend in Adelaide.

"He just wasn't moving right in Adelaide - he was still a bit sore," Griffith said.

"We had planned to give him a spell at some stage to keep him fresh.

"The workload he's had, he's a bit sore. He had that virus at the end of the Test series (against Sri Lanka).

"It's an opportunity for him to stay home and rest up and get right."
