Tim Minchin has missed out on a Tony Award at Broadway's night of nights.

Australia's Tim Minchin has missed out on the original score Tony Award for Groundhog Day.

The Tony went to Benj Pasek and Justin Paul for Dear Evan Hansen at Sunday's ceremony at Radio City Music Hall in New York.

Minchin wrote the music and lyrics for Groundhog Day, which entered the Tony Awards with seven nominations and is based on the Bill Murray comedy film of the same name.
