Titan Roberts has Peats' blessings

There will be no hard feelings if Gold Coast utility Tyrone Roberts moves to another NRL club next season, says teammate Nathan Peats.

Gold Coast hooker Nathan Peats would not hold it against his good mate Tyrone Roberts if he moves to a rival NRL club next season.

Off contract at season's end, Roberts has been shunted to the bench for the Titans' south-east Queensland derby this Saturday.

Despite a solid showing alongside halfback Ashley Taylor, the versatile Grafton product seems destined to play second fiddle to fit-again No. 6 Kane Elgey if he remains on the Gold Coast.

Three does not go into two and Roberts, understood to be unhappy with how contract negotiations are progressing on the Gold Coast, could look elsewhere.

Peats gets on well with Roberts but says he understands his and the club's predicament.

"I like all three of the halves we have, but it's tough having three quality halves because someone has to move," Peats said.

"He's got a kid, another one on the way in next couple of weeks and he's a good footy player.

"If it means moving to another club then I guess he's got to do that."

The Titans play rivals Brisbane, who currently sit fourth, on Saturday.

It was a derby that promised so much, until the Titans flopped against Wests Tigers on the weekend.

The lacklustre 26-4 loss shut the door on Gold Coast's top-eight hopes.

Peats knows that beating the best has not been a problem for Gold Coast this season.

Their troubles have come against the bottom eight sides, those frailties front and centre in the last round against a team running second last.

The Titans twice beat Cronulla this season, who currently sit third, while also knocking off current table-toppers Melbourne in a 38-36 epic.

And a narrow round seven loss to Brisbane was one that got away.

But they have thrown in losses to Newcastle, Canberra, South Sydney, Wests and New Zealand twice, who all currently sit no better than 10th.

While injury has plagued Neil Henry's men, Peats said it was their application on game day that needed to be questioned.

"We always get up for all the big games, but those games where we're expected to win, we've struggled a bit this year," Peats said.

"It obviously comes down to an attitude thing and is maybe what we need to work on at the club."

The return of Kevin Proctor to the side might spark something against Brisbane, captain Ryan James admitting they missed his presence against the Tigers.
