Titan Simpkins suffers season-ending blow

The news wasn't good for Gold Coast ahead of their NRL clash with Manly with Ryan Simpkins ruled out for the season and Dan Sarginson likely to join him.

Gold Coast's worst fears have been confirmed with Ryan Simpkins ruled out for the rest of the NRL season and Dan Sarginson in serious doubt.

Forward Simpkins and utility back Sarginson were both injured in last week's upset win over Melbourne.

Simpkins has a ruptured ACL while Sarginson is likely to require surgery on his dislocated shoulder which will rub him out of his debut season.

Their injuries adds to a horror run for the Titans, who were without Nathan Peats for several rounds at the start of the year and Jarryd Hayne who exited after round two.

Titans captain Ryan James says they will miss Simpkins.

"People see his name in the program and they don't see much of it, but he's the glue that holds us together in the forward pack," James said.

"He was carrying a couple of injuries this year, but still playing great footy.

"It's really disappointing his season ended during his 50th game ... Not many footballers make it to that milestone."

The injury could spell the end of Simpkins' career at the Titans.

The 28-year-old's contract with the Gold Coast ends this year and with ACL ruptures in both knees coupled with a host of young forwards coming through, it is unlikely he will keep his place at the club next season.

Sarginson will be hoping to get back on the pitch in his debut NRL season which has been hampered by injury.

The England international missed the majority of the start of the year through a knee tendonitis and Gold Coast coach Neil Henry fears a return to the field this year will be unlikely if he requires surgery.
