Titans' big boys to tackle Burgess trio

Gold Coast coach Neil Henry says the move of regular second rower Chris McQueen to five eighth is part of a plan to stop South Sydney's Burgess brothers.

Gold Coast will use plenty of their big bodies to try and slow down South Sydney's giant trio of Burgess brothers in the NRL on Friday night.

Titans coach Neil Henry shocked all when he named Chris McQueen as five-eighth earlier in the week, but says it will help combat the Rabbitohs' strong forward pack.

"They've got the Burgess boys all starting, they're a big team and play a power game through the middle ... they rely on rolling forwards and I think we needed a bigger team across the park," Henry said.

South Sydney skipper Sam Burgess' start to the year has been devastating - on average he runs for 152m per game and racks up 25 tackles.

While his younger twin brothers Tom and George can't boast the same consistency, they bring plenty of impact to the team.

They were in full flight for Souths against Brisbane last week and will be licking their lips at the prospect of running through a depleted Titans side.

Jarryd Hayne, Nathan Peats and Jarrod Wallace will all be missing due to State of Origin duties while injuries have hit the Titans again this week with Kane Elgey (sternum), Karl Lawton (shoulder) and Tyrone Roberts (shoulder) unavailable.

And to add to their woes, winger Anthony Don moved gingerly and trained away from the group on Thursday morning.

But Gold Coast captain Ryan James is still looking forward to the challenge.

"Our forward pack is big enough and we're ready to step up to the task, we know they're going to try and barge through the middle and we're expecting that," James said.

A much needed addition for the Titans is the return of back Kevin Proctor, who returns to the NRL after serving a four-match club ban.

The Kiwi international was outed after being caught up in a cocaine scandal, along with Melbourne's Jesse Bromwich, last month.
