Titans fit and firing for NRL finals push

After a horror injury run in the first half the NRL season, Gold Coast captain Ryan James believes the Titans are ready to make a belated finals charge.

It may be a long shot but Gold Coast aren't out of the NRL finals race just yet.

The Titans' 20-10 win over St George Illawarra on Friday night leaves them with six wins from 16 matches this season, still six points behind eighth-placed Parramatta.

Next week's bye is followed by a tough home match against Cronulla.

The Titans have however beaten the Sharks - as well as Melbourne and now the Dragons - in a season marred by a huge injury toll.

With many of those hurt troops now finding both fitness and form, Titans skipper Ryan James can feel a late-season charge building at Robina.

The final eight rounds for the Titans include road trips to Penrith, the Dragons, Parramatta and the Sydney Roosters but James can't see why his team can't secure a top eight spot.

"We're starting to build. We're starting to work on the things we need to work on like the defence and we've got the same team on the paddock," he said.

"We've got the Sharks next and we always seem to go good against the Sharks.

"Every game now, the season's on the line."

One person who wouldn't be surprised to see the Titans in action come September is Dragons coach Paul McGregor.

"They've beaten three good teams - they've beat us, they've beat Cronulla and they've beaten Melbourne," McGregor said.

"When they've got a good team on the park, they play well.

"I think they're a quality footy team. They've got a good roster."
