Today's Birthday April 30: Australian singer Nikki Webster (1987-).

Nikki Webster has risen from the star of the 2000 Olympic Games opening ceremony to a successful pop singer and stage actor.

Born Nicole Marie Webster on April 30, 1987 in Sydney, she first appeared on television in a commercial at age six.

By the age of 12 Webster had performed in musicals including Les Miserables (1997-1998), appeared on television soapie Home And Away (1994) and in the hit Australian film The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of The Desert (1994).

It was her role as Hero Girl in the Sydney Olympic Games opening ceremony that rocketed Webster to fame.

She played a young girl on a magical journey of Australia.

Webster's recording career began with the song she sang in the Olympics closing ceremony, titled We'll Be The One, and released her debut album Follow Your Heart in 2001.

She has since released a further three albums, including a best-of in 2004.

Webster also starred as Dorothy in the long-running stage musical The Wizard Of Oz (2001-2002), appearing alongside TV legend Bert Newton.

Soon after Webster appeared in the second season of Network Seven's Dancing With The Stars program (2005), and continued to produce a fashion label for young girls.

In 2007, she started playing lead character Sheila in Hair and started her own dance school with her brother Scott.

Webster had her first child, Skylah, with husband Matthew McMah earlier this year.
