A two-year-old girl has undergone surgery for serious facial injuries after being attacked by a dog in a Sydney park.

The toddler was with her mother in the park in Sydenham on Saturday night when she was bitten by the unleashed animal, believed to be a bulldog.

She underwent surgery for an eyelid injury and is expected to be released from hospital on Monday.

The dog's owner has spoken to police, and has since had his pet put down by a local vet.
