Toddler fatally hit by mum's car in NSW

A mother reversing a car at a caravan park in NSW's Illawarra region has hit her 18-month-old daughter who later died in hospital.

An 18-month-old girl has died after being struck by a reversing car driven by her mother in a caravan park at Kiama on the NSW south coast.

Police say a woman aged in her 30s was reversing the vehicle at the Easts Beach Caravan Park when the girl was hit on Monday afternoon.

Paramedics and doctors from the NSW Ambulance rescue helicopter worked for more than 90 minutes to stabilise the girl before she could be airlifted to hospital.

The girl was flown in a critical condition with suspected chest and abdominal injurires to Sydney Children's Hospital where she later died.

Police will prepare a report for the coroner.
