Tom Garlepp a King for two more years

Veteran Sydney Kings forward Tom Garlepp has re-signed with the club until the end of the 2017-18 NBL season.

Andrew Gaze's rebuild of the Sydney Kings has continued, with veteran forward Tom Garlepp re-signing with the NBL club on a two-year deal.

The Kings beat off interest from several other clubs to add him to a 2016-17 roster that already includes last season's NBL's MVP Kevin Lisch from Perth.

"I had some good offers, but in the end I really wanted to have my name be synonymous with the Sydney Kings," Garlepp said.

"I'm excited to play for the greatest of all-time in Andrew Gaze; (assistant) Dean Vickerman is someone I've always admired for the way he deals with his players.

"And (fellow assistant) Lanard Copeland is obviously a guy who is one of the best to have ever played."

Garlepp is the fifth player to sign on to the Kings' roster for next season after centre Julian Khazzouh, forward Jeromie Hill and point guard Jason Cadee each returned.

The 204-centimetre Australian was one of the side's best during their disastrous 2015-16 season, shooting averaging 14 points and four rebounds each match as the Kings fell to 6-22.

But the club's managing director Jeff Van Groningen said the retention the 29-year-old, who surpassed the 200-game mark last season, was key after he continued to offer bright light for the team in a disappointing year.

"Last season was a strong one for Tom, shooting the ball at over 50 per cent and playing strongly during what looked like a very tough year."
