Tomljanovic considers missing Sydney

Adopted Australian Ajla Tomljanovic is considering skipping the upcoming Sydney International as she battles an abdominal injury.

Australian hopeful Ajla Tomljanovic may opt out of the upcoming Sydney International tennis tournament due to an abdominal injury.

The Croatian-born Tomljanovic was defeated in straight sets on Monday in her opening round clash at the Brisbane International against Spain's Carla Suarez Navarro.

The world No.13 took just over an hour to beat Tomljanovic 6-1 6-2 in a Pat Rafter Arena demolition.

Following the match, Tomljanovic revealed she had torn an abdominal muscle in practice last week and had been hampered by the injury throughout.

The world No.65 has been granted a wildcard for the Sydney event but says her focus is on making sure she is fully fit for this month's Australian Open.

"My plan was to go to Sydney. That might not happen," she said.

"I still don't know. Have to see how it pulls up in the next couple of days.

"If Sydney is a no-go, that doesn't matter as long as I'm ready for Melbourne."
