Tony Abbott injured surfing in Sydney

Tony Abbott has been released from hospital after he suffered a minor injury while surfing at a Sydney beach.

Tony Abbott has thanked the hospital staff who patched him up after he suffered a minor injury while surfing at a Sydney beach.

"A big thank you to the ED staff at Manly Hospital for patching me up this morning after a minor fin chop," he tweeted on Friday afternoon.

The former prime minister reportedly received several stitches for a gash on his foot after colliding with another surfboard.
