The RFS has issued an emergency warning for residents at Carwoola near Queanbeyan as a fire threatens properties.

A number of properties have been lost in the blaze. The exact number will not be known until conditions ease, the RFS says.

The ABC reported that the fire covered about 2,700 hectares and at least 15 homes had been destroyed on Friday evening.

Easing winds have allowed firefighters to stop some parts of the fire.

The fire is burning in the Captains Flat Road at Carwoola and Captains Flat areas.

The warning was issued just after 1.30pm AEDT on Friday as hot and windy conditions fuelled the blaze.

The fire is impacting on the area around Hoskinstown.
it is too late to leave the area of Hoskinstown, Rossi or Forbes Creek seek shelter.

If you are in the area of Primrose Valley do not leave, as the road north is affected by fire.

If you are in the area of Captain's Flat, there is no immediate threat to the township. Do not leave to the north, the RFS advised, as the road is affected by fire.

Two evacuation centres have been set up for those who can safely access them.

The first is at the 'Q' - Queanbeyan Performing Arts Centre, 253 Crawford Street, Queanbeyan.

A second evacuation centre is at the Bungendore Public School Hall, 59-65 Gilbraltar Street.

Mandurama fire

The RFS also issued an alert on Friday afternoon AEDT about a grass fire burning near Belubula Way, west of Mandurama.
The fire is burning in a south easterly direction along Belubula Way towards Lyndhurst and Belubula.

With conditions easing, firefighters are now slowing the spread of the fire.

If you are in the area of Lyndhurst and Mandurama monitor conditions and follow direction from firefighters in the area.

Be prepared to enact your bush fire survival plan.
