'Too late to leave' in northeast Vic

The CFA has warned residents it's too late to leave as a fast-moving, out-of-control grass fire moves towards Victoria's Indigo Valley.

Residents in Victoria's northeast have been told it's too late to leave as a fast-moving, out-of-control grass fire moves towards them.

The CFA has issued an emergency warning for Barnawartha, Indigo Upper and Indigo Valley.

"You are in danger, act now to protect yourself. It is too late to leave," the CFA says.

Spot fires and ember attacks could be up to 4.30km ahead of the main fire.

Indigo Valley Road is closed.

The CFA has also issued a Watch and Act alert for nearby areas including Barnawartha, Barnawartha North, Indigo Valley, West Wodonga, Huon Creek, Castle Creek, Indigo Upper, Wodonga, Leneva West, Wooragee, Leneva, Yackandandah, Beechworth.

"The fire could impact Indigo Valley, Wooragee, Indigo Upper, Leneva West or Yackandandah any time," the CFA says.

Those residents are being told to leave now.
