'Too tall for jail'

A lawyer in the Netherlands is arguing that his client is too tall to be sent to jail.

A Dutch lawyer is attempting to get his client out of jail with an unusual argument: he is too tall and fat for his cell.

Bas Martens says his client is about 2.08m tall and weighs 226.8kg.

The man is "a giant" and argues his imprisonment is so painful it violates European human rights law.

The prisoner, identified under Dutch privacy law by his initials, AM, is serving a two-year sentence for fraud. Court spokeswoman Paula Keuning says a ruling will be handed down on February 8.
