Top NZ league award for Foran

Kieran Foran has scooped New Zealand Rugby League's top award after being named player of the year.

Kiwis five-eighth Kieran Foran has been named New Zealand Rugby League's player of the year.

Foran has played 15 Tests for the Kiwis since debuting in 2009, and this year captained the Kiwis twice - against Australia in Canberra in April, and against Papua New Guinea in the Rugby League World Cup in Britain.

The 23-year-old played in all six of the Kiwis' Rugby League World Cup matches, as well as the warm-up game against the Cook Islands.

Dean Whare, who moved to Australia from Rotorua when he was 10 and made his debut for the Kiwis in 2012, was named rookie of the year.

Junior Kiwi Tuimoala Lolohea was named junior player of the year, while women's player of the year went to Sarina Fiso.
