Toronto's mayor at home after chemo

Toronto Mayor Rob Ford has left hospital after his first round of chemotherapy for a malignant liposarcoma in his abdomen.

Toronto Mayor Rob Ford, who earned notoriety for smoking crack cocaine while in office, has been released from a hospital after undergoing his first round of chemotherapy.

Ford's office said on Tuesday he is "resting with his family at this time".

Ford began aggressive chemotherapy for a rare cancer last week.

He has a malignant liposarcoma in his abdomen and is expected get another cycle of chemotherapy in an effort to shrink the tumour, and then doctors will reassess his situation.

He has been hospitalised for nearly two weeks.

The tumour forced Ford to do what months of scandals over drug and alcohol abuse could not - drop his bid for re-election.

Ford has been engulfed in controversy since the Toronto Star and the US website Gawker last year reported the existence of a video apparently showing the mayor inhaling from a crack pipe.
