A total fire ban has been declared in Tasmania's southern region on Thursday.

The ban, to take effect from midnight, includes Hobart and follows a spate of early spring bushfires that affected southern and central Tasmania in recent weeks.

Temperatures are forecast to reach 25C to 30C, with strong northwesterly winds and a chance of showers or thunderstorms in in the evening.
