A total fire ban has been declared for much of NSW on Thursday, with high temperatures and strong winds forecast in the Greater Hunter.
The ban, which will start from midnight (AEST) on Wednesday, covers Greater Sydney, the Greater Hunter, the North Coast, the Far North Coast, New England, Northern Slopes and the North Western region.
A severe fire danger has been extended to all of these regions, except the Greater Hunter which faces an extreme warning.
Inspector Ben Shepherd from the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) said the Greater Hunter was of most concern with high winds and temperatures set to reach up to 35 degrees.
"Wind gusts are expected to get up to 90km/h," he said on Wednesday.

On a day of total fire ban, there is a ban on any fires out in the open, the RFS said.
People should report any unattended fires to Triple Zero.
