She may meet a first-round qualifier but former US Open champion Samantha Stosur will be ruing her Brisbane International draw along with her fellow Australians.

Wildcard Stosur appeared to have a smooth ride into the Brisbane tournament after Saturday's draw.

But closer inspection revealed the world No.74 is on a collision course with former world No.1 and fifth seed Karolina Pliskova of Czech Republic in the second round.

The women's draw also wasn't kind to the rest of the five-strong Australian contingent in a Brisbane field boasting four grand slam champions.

World No.35 Daria Gavrilova takes on eighth seed and 2018 US Open semi-finalist Anastasija Sevastova of Latvia in the first round.

Priscilla Hon is drawn to meet Sevastova in the second round if the Australian wildcard overcomes a first round qualifier.

World No.46 Ajla Tomljanovic of Australia is set for a second round showdown with third seed and 2017 US Open champion Sloane Stephens of the United States.

And Australian wildcard Kimberly Birrell - a recent Australian Open wildcard playoff winner - takes on seventh seed Daria Kasatkina, a dual 2018 grand slam quarter-finalist, in the first round.

World No.6 Stephens faces a blockbuster opening round clash with former Australian Open semi-finalist Johanna Konta of Great Britain.

Stephens is drawn to meet Brisbane defending champion and top seed Elina Svitolina of Ukraine in the semi-finals.

World No.4 Svitolina is on a roll after winning October's WTA Finals in Singapore - the biggest title of her career.

Svitolina is on the opposite side of the draw from Brisbane No.2 and reigning US Open champ Naomi Osaka of Japan who has a first round bye.

Two-time Wimbledon champion and fourth seed Petra Kvitova opens her campaign against American Danielle Collins.
