Townsville's Brian Conklin is NBL's best

Second-year American import Brian Conklin of the Townsville Crocodiles voted the National Basketball League's Most Valuable Player of 2014-15.

Brian Conklin of the Townsville Crocodiles is the National Basketball League's Most Valuable Player of the season.

Conklin finished fourth in scoring, averaging 18.9 points per game, with 6.4 rebounds on 50.7 per cent shooting from the field.

The powerhouse forward also finished the regular season leading the League in total two-pointers made (188) and total free throws made (151) to go alongside six total double-doubles.

This is only the second NBL season for the American import, who had an outstanding debut with the Townsville Crocodiles in 2013/14, averaging 16.3 points and 4.8 rebounds.

Conklin made the Top 15 in last year's MVP standings and Townsville head coach Shawn Dennis is thrilled he has taken out the NBL's most prestigious award this time.

"It's a testament to Brian and the way he approaches the game. He is a true professional. He sets big goals for himself and when he doesn't achieve those, he is his harshest critic," said Dennis in a statement released by the NBL.

"His consistency and maturity on the court has helped this team make progress, and throughout the season our group never stopped fighting. Brian played a huge part in that, because that's a quality he possesses as a player and a person."

Conklin was allocated 111 votes over 20 rounds to claim the 2015 MVP honour, edging out Cedric Jackson (New Zealand Breakers) with 101 votes, while Josh Childress (Sydney Kings) still managed to place third with 94 votes despite only playing 18 games.

Conklin also gets an All-NBL First Team nod to cap off his tremendous season.
