Trad wants burnt down Brisbane pub rebuilt

Queensland Treasurer Jackie Trad wants an inner Brisbane pub destroyed by fire on Saturday to be rebuilt if the site is redeveloped.

Queensland Treasurer Jackie Trad wants a historic pub destroyed by a suspicious fire to be rebuilt in its original form if a multi-million dollar development application for the site goes ahead.

The fire that burnt down the Broadway Hotel in Woolloongabba was the third blaze at the heritage site in the past eight years.

The hotel, which was built in the late 1880s, had been vacant for several years and was the subject of a $260 million development application.

Ms Trad has called on the Brisbane City Council to ensure the venue, which falls within her electorate, is rebuilt to its former glory should the application get the green light.

"I think Queenslanders are sick of seeing heritage sites fall into disrepair or to be mysteriously burnt down overnight," she said.

"It is only reasonable, it is only sensible and it is in the public interest that when these sorts of events happen in the future, that there should be strong conditions put on development applications that the heritage building ... should be rebuilt."

A member of the public raised the alarm after noticing the flames in the pub on Logan Rd at about 12.45am on Sunday.

Police said no-one was injured and they have established a crime scene.

The fire took some time to contain.

"When I first arrived it was completely engulfed and the flames rising above the rooftop and the roof collapsed fairly quickly," Sergeant Todd Sucic told reporters at the scene.
