The Indigenous traditional owners of central Queensland's coal rich Galilee Basin, the Wangan and Jagalingou Family Council, have in Brisbane launched a Federal Court challenge to the Adani Carmichael mine.
The traditional owners have promised to stop the $16.5 billion Carmichael mine, the biggest in Australian history, saying it will negatively impact traditional lands.
The court action is aimed at challenging a decision by the Australia's National Native Title Tribunal that the state government may issue mining leases for Carmichael.
The Federal Court challenge is part of a two pronged approach by traditional owners.
They're also visiting banks and other financial institutions in the United States, urging them to rule out funding the mine.
