Several passengers have been injured when a train collided with a truck in the Netherlands.

A train has derailed in the northern Netherlands after colliding with a truck, injuring several passengers.

Police in the northern city of Groningen say in a tweet that the train derailed on Friday near the town of Winsum, about 200 kilometres northeast of Amsterdam.

Emergency services say the front carriage of the train derailed. It was not immediately clear how many people were on board the train.

Police say the driver of the truck was unhurt.
