A freight train has derailed in the Northern Territory, near where flooding caused by ex-tropical cyclone Grant forced the closure of several roads, including the Northern Territory's principal thoroughfare, the Stuart Highway.
Commander David Pocter said a helicopter was used to get officers and medical staff to the scene of the derailment.
The ABC reports that two men trapped in the train have now been freed, although a CareFlight helicopter on the way to rescue the men was unable to land. Member for Katherine Willem Westra Van Holthe told the ABC it was a 'scene of devastation.'
The iron ore train came off the tracks just north of Edith Falls River Crossing, near Katherine, at about 5.30am (CST) today.
Police say the driver suffered a back injury.
It's believed the train has about 20 carriages.
