Queensland's Smith twins have incurred the wrath of coach Brad Thorn, who has dropped them for the Super Rugby clash with the Sunwolves as punishment for skipping training commitments.
JP and Ruan Smith have been bench weapons this year for the Reds but the South African-born pair haven't been considered for selection by Thorn for Saturday's Tokyo match.
At their start of their bye week, they both missed the team's session on the Monday after their win over the Lions at Suncorp Stadium.
JP, who started against the Lions, also didn't make a Reds recovery session the day before while Ruan, who was on the bench, didn't show for his scheduled club game.
The Reds wouldn't disclose why they didn't turn up but insisted the reasons were more embarrassing than scandalous.
In the past, bye-week duties have been rather loosely enforced at Ballymore - but not under Thorn, whose sky-high standards when it comes to preparation and training have long been the stuff of rugby legend.
James Slipper will take JP's front-row position against the Sunwolves and will be stand-in skipper after recovering from a collarbone injury.
Jono Lance (concussion) is also back at five-eighth, with Hamish Stewart moving to fullback and squeezing Aidan Toua onto the bench.
Meanwhile, the in-form Caleb Timu (ankle) is out with injury, prompting a back-row reshuffle with Adam Korczyk promoted and Angus Scott-Young moved to No.8.
The match, which is Queensland's first in Japan, is also Kane Douglas' 100th Super Rugby appearance.
Douglas played 76 matches for the NSW Waratahs before departing Australian rugby in 2014 and will head overseas again at the end of this season, having tied up a deal with French club Bordeaux.
But the 28-year-old is wary of having the occasion spoiled by the Sunwolves, who might be winless but have the potential to pile on the points and disrupt more-fancied opponents when everything clicks.
"They've definitely looked at their best in Tokyo," Douglas said.
"They never give up. Even if things aren't coming their way, they just keep going and going.
"It'll be tough. We've got to respect them."
