Transurban's toll revenue jumps

An earlier Easter holiday period this year helped toll roads operator Transurban book a 17 per cent rise in fiscal fourth quarter revenue.

Toll road operator Transurban's quarterly revenue is up 17 per cent, helped in part by an early Easter holiday period.

The company - which operates Sydney' M2, M5 and M7, Melbourne's Citylink and Brisbane's AirportLink M7 - booked revenue of $500 million in the three months to June 30.

Proportional toll revenue - which Transurban says is the most accurate reflection of its performance - was up 17.5 per cent from the same period a year earlier, to $513 million.

The bulk of the improvement came from toll roads in Sydney and Melbourne.

Transurban said revenue growth got a boost from the Easter holiday falling in the March quarter, rather than the usual June quarter, meaning greater traffic volumes in June quarter for 2016.

Sydney's proportional toll revenue rose 13 per cent to $204 million, while Melbourne's lifted eight per cent to $166 million.

In Sydney, average daily traffic rose 6.5 per cent to 632,000 trips over the three-month period.
