Travellers on an international and domestic flight are being told to visit their doctor immediately after a young Tasmanian woman flew with an infectious case of measles.
The 25-year-old returned to Australia last Thursday from the Philippines on Cebu Pacific flight 5J49 and then flew on Qantas flight QF2051 from Melbourne to Devonport on Friday.
Health authorities want people on the two flights to contact their GP to ensure they are immune to measles.
The woman, who is recovering in hospital, was infectious while at the Devonport Airport on Friday morning and at Victoria Street Clinic in Ulverstone in Tasmania's northwest on Saturday.
People at those two locations are also being urged to contact their doctors.
"Outbreaks of measles in popular tourist destinations, particularly the Philippines, means the risk of measles being imported into Australia remains high," Tasmania Public Health Service Clinical Director Dr Faline Howes said on Tuesday.
"Anyone planning to travel overseas should check their immunisation status, and ensure they have received two doses of measles vaccine."
It is the first reported case of measles in Tasmania this year.
People are immune after two doses of measles-containing vaccine, were born before 1966 or have documented evidence of measles infection.
The vaccine is free for those up to the age of 20 and is also available on prescription.
Symptoms of the disease include fever, sore eyes and cough followed three or four days later by a red, blotchy rash spreading from the head and neck to the rest of the body.
