Treasurer Scott Morrison will hold his first talks with new US and Chinese counterparts on the sidelines of the G20 finance ministers meeting.

Mr Morrison is headed to Germany on Thursday for the gathering in Baden-Baden, which will include discussions on developments in the global economy.

He will also be holding talks for the first time with new United States Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, as well as China's newly appointed Finance Minister Xiao Jie.
