Video footage has emerged from Brazil reportedly showing the sole survivor of an uncontacted Amazon tribe, according to Brazil officials.

According to Brazil's indigenous agency FUNAI, the footage reportedly dates back to 2011 and shows a man swinging an axe at a tree in Tanaru territory in Brazil.

According to the group, never before has a man of this Amazon tribe been filmed so clearly before.

FUNAI report the Indigenous population of Tanaru was largely expelled by farmers in the 1970s and 80s.

The man in the video is allegedly the sole survivor of a group that was killed by farmers in 1995.

In 2015, an area of the Tanaru region was declared a reserve to help protect the Indigenous culture and lifestyle of the region.

Brazil's Indigenous agency has a policy of avoiding contact with isolated groups but has reportedly tried to reach out to the man by leaving a machete, axe and seeds to help the man survive.

But the man has reportedly showed no interest in contacting people from the outside world, according to FUNAI.
