Family and friends of Fairfax columnist and author Sam de Brito have been left grieving following the writer's sudden death.

The 46-year-old father-of-one was found dead at a property along Hastings Parade in North Bondi around 8am on Monday, police confirmed.

A NSW police spokesperson told AAP that initial investigations reveal there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.
In a statement to Fairfax, de Brito's family said the 46-year-old was a wonderful father to his daughter, Anoushka, and that they have been left "devastated" by his tragic passing.

"His family asks for privacy at this time as they grieve for the loss of Sam and await the results of a coroner's report," the family said in the statement.

De Brito wrote the Fairfax column All Men Are Liars. He also wrote five books including No Tattoos Before You're Thirty and No Sex With Your Ex.

He wrote, directed and starred in the 1998 comedy film Revenge, Inc. His other writing credits include episodes for TV shows Water Rats and Stingers.

Fellow journalists and readers of de Brito's column have paid tribute to the author.

"Such terrible news. Fairfax columnist Sam de Brito has died. Our thoughts are with his family and friends," Duska Sulicich, editor of the Sunday Age, tweeted.

"The best job Sam de Brito ever had, by his own reckoning, was being a dad. Go well, Sam. My heart breaks for your family & beloved daughter," Mia Freedman, editor of Mamamia, tweeted.
"Sam de Brito wrote with originality, diversity of subject, and a lovely undertone of `screw you if you don't like it'. He was brilliant #RIP," Anthony Sharwood, News Ltd journalist and former Fairfax Chief of Staff, tweeted.

"This is just incredibly shocking. Worked with him: he was such a convicted & passionate guy. #RIP Sam de Brito," Melissa Hoyer, News.com.au Editor-at-Large, wrote.

Clementine Ford, columnist for Daily Life, tweeted: "Sam de Brito and I had our differences, but I'm incredibly saddened to hear of his passing. Thoughts with his family, esp his little girl."

"This is terrible. My condolences to his daughter and family," wrote model-turned-author Tara Moss.
